North, South and Middle

Tecumseh from the North Tripyramid slide

I spent some more time recently hiking in New Hampshire. This has been a great summer for hiking trails as mud is almost non-existant. If it can stay like this through leef peeping season I will be a happy hiker. Once again I did my best to help out the NH economy buying several pairs of shoes in North Conway.

The hikes:

  • I hiked to the Hancocks (North and South) from the Kancamagus Highway on a cloudy and cool day. I did not bring a map and had to think about turning left or right on the Cedar brook trail on the way back. My sense of direction said left but my logical brain said right. Logic won out and I was back at the car within the hour!
  • I hiked the Tripyramids (North, Middle and South)via the Mt Tripyramid trail up the north slide and down the south slide. If you like steep exposed scrambling then this hike is a gold mine. In dry conditions I wouldn't consider it dangerous but I won't be doing this again any time soon. The north slide (pic above) gains 1200 feet in .5 of a mile while the south slide is "less steep" as it only gains 1000 feet in .5 of a mile.
