Last (and first) paddle of the season

IMG_5675
I headed out Saturday afternoon to visit a friend's cottage on a bay on the Mississippi river just west of Carleton Place. While it was raining when I set out, the sun came out and made it a nice day for November. They have a sweet setup there. A three bedroom house with a west view across a bay with a seperate "shack" with two loft beds. Apparently the cottage was moved in various pieces from a location along the Ottawa river back in the 1950s to make way for the Ottawa River parkway.

After a tour of the property and of the nearby "point" we put the canoe in the bay and went for a late afternoon paddle around their bay and the one next door. The water level was low but we were able to investigate some beaver and muskrat dwellings as well as some really nice houses along the shore. Then as we were returning the sun was glowing bright in the sky just before sunset. A great way to spend a November afternoon!

that last photo is surely one you will have to blow up. any trip like that in the month of november is such a bonus. I am just trying to string the blog along until snowshoeing...maybe next weekend?

Ahh, canoeing. One of my favourite outdoor activities that ended up being neglected this year thanks to my hiking adventures in the ADK. There just not enough days in the summer.
